Welcome to our 3rd year of Dog Agility displays around the North West of England.
***********************************
We did have one team member without a SatNav (he shall remain nameless!) who was, shall we say, a tad late – but still in time for a brew before the first display. The sun shone down on us again. It was hot work for handlers and dogs whilst running the displays, but with lots of water and gazebos to sit under in between displays, oh, and an ice cream van just round the corner – we managed! Making their debut at this show were Martha, our newest junior handler, with Tommy. I’m sure they were both very nervous but Martha remained calm , even when Tommy took a slight detour off the course to go and say ‘hello’ to the audience. He does love to show off! We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this show and were surprised at how large the event was. Many of us enjoyed watching the old lorries and steam rollers in the main ring as well as going round studying them more closely, whilst partaking in the food and beverages on sale. The organisers were all very friendly and helpful and very accommodating of us when we needed to change our display times slightly. All in all, it was a very relaxing atmosphere. We have been invited back for the whole 2 day event next year, so get your tents and sleeping bags out and aired in time. Anyone for a barbeque? *********************************** Tarleton Rose Queen Crowning & Field Day 25th June 2011Very wet start to the day but the rain cleared, sun came out and it turned out a really nice day. Tarleton brass band was playing which created a good atmosphere, there were lots of stalls and activities going on throughout the day. I think most of the team went home with bags and bags of fruit, veg and plants and had their fill of the various delights (cakes etc) on sale. The two displays went well with Beryl doing the commentary for the first time, we had a large appreciative audience and all in all we all had a really enjoyable day, The organisers promptly booked us for next year to avoid being disapponted again as in 2010
*********************************** Littleborough Rushbearing Festival, 30th JulyWe always enjoy performing at Littleborough. The event is very well organised and the crowds are really friendly. What fantastic weather – another good day for ice creams! This show saw the return of Tara handled by Georgina – welcome back to you both. Georgina’s sister Alex did a great job in looking after Lucy and Tia. This was the first show for our youngest dog Willow handled by Anthony. Both displays went well with only a few minor mishaps (well, some of the dogs really need to go and say ‘hello’ to the audience – it would be rude not to!) *********************************** Milnrow, Memorial Park, Sunday 7th August 2011Here we are again. It doesn’t seem 2 minutes since we were here last!. Our ‘Great Escape’ dog Toby (see show report from Milnrow, 17th April) was really missed at this show due to his illness. We can’t wait to see this enthusiastic little dog back at our displays. Alex made her show debut handling Lucy in the opening routine. Our first display was delayed slightly due to the weather. Our junior handlers seized this opportunity for testing out the play equipment in the park. The weather forecasters got it right though and after 12 o’ clock, it brightened up enough for the first display to go ahead.
*********************************** Barrowford Show 28th AugustAnother wet start, but this didn’t dampen our spirits as we were performing in front of our home crowd. Kath had made sure that the Fence dog walkers were out in force to see Gizmo in action. Steve made his debut as commentator and made a really good job of it. We’ll have to see if this can be his permanent job with the display team! The dogs loved the fact that the falconry display was in the same arena – as there were lots of tasty treats left behind (the handlers weren’t too impressed though!) Derek, complete with hoodie was the ‘Litter Lout’ of the show. He is sooo good at this that many people thought that he was for real. It took them a little while to realise he was part of the act!
